We are a multi-brand organization dedicated to delivering innovative, dependable control and monitoring solutions that enhance efficiency, protect the environment, and support customers across numerous industries. We are seeking an experienced Electrical-Control Systems Engineer III to join our team. This role may be based in several U.S. locations, with frequent travel to customer sites required.
Our organization provides advanced automation and control solutions for industries such as industrial processes, water and wastewater treatment, power and energy, manufacturing, food and beverage, oil and gas, and pulp and paper. We design, build, and implement custom automation systems for complex projects.
Position Overview
Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a dynamic work environment? We are looking for a skilled Electrical-Control Systems Engineer III to support the full lifecycle of automated systems—from concept and design to programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting. You will collaborate closely with clients and internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and successfully.
In this role, you will take responsibility for designing, implementing, and testing electrical control systems across multiple projects. Duties include contributing to project management, selecting hardware, programming PLCs and HMIs, designing control panels, commissioning systems in the field, and resolving technical issues.
You will develop PLC and HMI applications, program sequences such as lead/lag and cascade PID control, perform in-shop testing, and participate in on-site startups. You will work with production teams, vendors, and engineering staff to ensure project alignment. Responsibilities also include panel layout support, bill of materials development, design analysis (breakers, fuses, wire sizing), technical writing, and contributing to internal training programs.
Key Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of industry standards (UL508A, NEC, IEEE) to design and specify components for industrial control systems
Configure PLCs, operator interfaces, and SCADA systems for industrial and water/wastewater applications
Lead mid-level projects independently while mentoring team members
Conduct field commissioning activities, including I/O checkout, functional testing, and system startup for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, VFDs, and instrumentation
Diagnose and resolve real-time issues across automation hardware, software, and communication networks
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and end users to ensure smooth project execution
Provide post-installation field service and technical support
Redline drawings, document commissioning activities, and support project closeout

- 8+ years of experience in automation system design, programming, commissioning, service, or startup
- Proficiency with common PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, GE, VTScada, Ignition)
- Strong understanding of industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, serial protocols, and wireless systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Strong troubleshooting ability and a commitment to safety
- Comfortable working in industrial or municipal environments, including water and wastewater facilities
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused attitude
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently (30%–60%)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with platforms such as GE iFIX, Schneider Unity/Control Expert, or Siemens TIA Portal
VFD startup certifications (e.g., ABB, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider)
Experience with instrument calibration and loop checks
OSHA 30 or equivalent industrial safety training
