A growing engineering organization is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Automation Systems Engineer to help support and lead efforts within the Engineering & Controls division. The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem solver with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. This role is central to designing, programming, implementing, and supporting automation solutions across a diverse client base. Candidates should be customer-focused and committed to delivering high-quality work the first time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Automation Strategy

  • Support and champion automation best practices, tools, and processes across design, engineering, programming, and deployment activities.
  • Project Management

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to plan, budget, and execute automation projects from concept to completion.
  • System Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for a variety of applications and industries.
  • Sequence of Operations

  • Create, interpret, and deploy operational sequences for diverse systems and environments.
  • Programming & SCADA Solutions

  • Develop and implement control programs using ladder logic, sequential function charts (SFC), structured text, function block diagrams (FBD), and instruction lists (IL).
  • Apply SCADA development skills including data structure design, graphic creation, user-defined types (UDTs), and Web Services integration.
  • Integration & Deployment

  • Lead installation and deployment efforts with minimal supervision.
  • System Commissioning & Validation

  • Develop test scripts, validation documents, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead field commissioning activities and client witness testing.
  • Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose issues involving mechanical, electrical, and OEM subsystems.
  • Team Collaboration

  • Provide leadership for engineering and project management teams, including driving lessons-learned and process improvement initiatives.
  • Design Documentation

  • Prepare and interpret electrical control schematics, power distribution layouts, mechanical drawings, and P&ID diagrams.
  • Ability to design and generate electrical control schematics as required.

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or technical field, or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience preferred in building automation, industrial automation, or a related discipline (minimum of 4 years required)
